Ideals Are Like Stars!

Ideals are like stars; you will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them you will reach your destiny. – Carl Schurz

Life is so mysterious. I have to believe in kismet – that so much of the beauty and wonder and struggle that we experience in life comes not from chance but because it is exactly what is supposed to be for each of us.

This can be very difficult to believe in times of pain and despair but when we have quiet moments we can look inward and give thanks to the wonder of life’s infinite wisdom. We can believe we are exactly who we are supposed to be for believing anything else is going against this wisdom. I have reflected upon my experiences and my DNA and I accept who I am and how my life has unfolded.

Chance connections and experiences are where we learn and grow. We need the darkness to see where we need to plant the stars – we can’t wish upon them until we’ve seen the truth in this and then nurtured them enough to begin to believe!

Last year I met a woman named Teresa who has taught me to sow stars. Her wisdom and way have given me pause, caused me to look at life in a way I didn’t before I met her. She has been there for me through times when I didn’t know how to keep going. She listened and affirmed. We shared, and became friends. Soul friends – the kind of friends who you have to believe were meant to be.

My friend “The Star Gardener” has changed my journey profoundly by doing something so simple yet so complex – she was who she is. Good. Genuine. Loving. Profound. Sparkly!

Because of Teresa, I now fling glitter and tend my garden of stars.

I do not know how to express my gratitude for the friendships that I have. I don’t know much about life but I do know that I want my life to be about connection and finding ways to love and laugh and cherish people who get me.

Teresa – you get me and I love you. Happy Birthday!

Today’s image was created for Teresa in wax, watercolor, pen, ink, and GLITTER!
