How To Create A Repeating Pattern In Seven Steps

Step One: This is the fun part. Just draw or create a digital collage. Here I actually did both of those – I doodled some flowers and then scanned them into my Corel Draw software. If you do not have drawing software, not to worry because you can simply use markers and paper.

Step Two: Simply cut your drawing in half. I know you don’t want to do that after all the work you put in! You can take a photo copy and cut that page in half.

Step Three: Move the right side to the left side and the left side to the right side. If using paper – tape the pieces together on the back and line the paper up carefully. It has to be precise so that later all the design elements will line up.

Step Four: Get the scissors out again and this time cut across your page horizontally.

Step Five: Move the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top. At this point the design is ready to fill in and finish.

Step Six: Fill in the remaining space – just be careful not to add any design element that bleeds off the page.

Step Seven: Your pattern can now be repeated infinitely!

Wow!  I love that.  I’m going to try that with the book/story I’m trying to put together for Parker Dye!
